New Head phones - I was missing OUT!

All I can say is "really?". Was I really that crazy not to have given som new head phones a try sooner. I had always thought that ALL the headphones that go directly in the ear were pieces of c.r.a.p., - I thought they hurt the insides of the ear and after you start sweating a bit that they might fall out. Well a lot of the ones that I tried before did fall out. They were always the ones that came with stuff, like phones. I never put much thought into venturing out to try some of the new ones with the different size pieces.

Even my "favorite" ones that I have used forever, would get sweaty and just kind of slip out. Whenever I use them, I always untuck my head band from behind my ears and use it to cover my ears, just to keep the headphones in place.

Here are the old favorites.

I found a few that were on clearance at Kohl's and thought I would give them a try. I bought my husband some and myself a new pair - in pink of course for me :-) I finally gave them a try and I am in LOVE with them. The sound quality of the music is GREAT, even with the volume lower and most of all they did not fall out! I did a good workout with weights and running and they truly passed the test!

If you are a "behind the ear" head phone wear-er, I suggest you try some like these. They are amazing!

1st race of the year

Last Saturday, (I know, I am a little late getting into the details) I ran my 1st race of the year! I was so excited and nervous at the same time. I had been training for a 10k race and this was a fun 5k race that was supposed to give me a little bit of speed work in my training. It was kind of chilly out, but I made sure I got things together the night before. I was READY!
I met up with a friend before the race to say hi and wish her luck, then met up with another to run the race together. We tried to warm up the best we could, but hey its been a while since I did a race that I was really into. The race starts and we seem to be doing okay at about a 10:20 min mile. Going a little further, I feel out of breath, and nudged Jessica that I had to walk a min and for her to keep going. I finished in 35 min and     seconds.

After the race Jessica and I met up again and we discussed some of our downfalls. The first downfall being that we started speeding up after we started the initial race. She informed me that we were going for an 8 minute and something mile - WHAT? No wonder I was feeling the heartbeat! It was an amazing race of the area that we live in, but somehow I had never really been on a few of the streets we ran. The homes were beautiful and it was such a lovely morning!

After the race we cooled down some and grabbed some breakfast. I went for the sweets! Bad girl - but it was so good. My husband came after he got off work and walked around with me bit and I got him to take a photo of me.

I took the one below after I got back home. I wanted to make sure I got a photo with my bib number showing.

I am super excited for my next race that is in 2 weeks!

The accident - Another part of my story

After my race on Saturday, I was just so ecstatic about how far I have come (back). An accident in October of last year kept me away from doing anyting almost 3 months. I know I havent shared that info on here yet. On October 7th, 2012 I woke up and went running early in the morning, before the sun came up. Went to church and then when we came back, my daughter wanted to go for a walk as she said "I didnt get my exercise today". So that is what we did. Almost back home, we were on a road that didnt have a side walk. A car was approaching pretty fast and sounded extemely close to me. So I attempted to turn around, but before I could I was hit! The left side of my body was the target.
This was me after a 4.5 mi run earlier that morning.

I was in shock! "Did I really just get hit by a car?!", I thought. The hit did not knock me down, but after realizing what happened and that I was still standing, I kind of collapsed onto the ground. My poor little Constance was in total shock! She had just witnessed her mommy, her protector, get hit by a car. She was screaming and crying. I chose to not call the cops. One reason being, that I did not want to shake up Constance's world any more and the other reason, just 2 weeks before this, I almost hit a guy with my car. He was walking in the dark with no reflective gear on. I was at a stop sign and he proceeds to walk in the front of my car when I was looking the other way to make sure my way was clear. That taught me that people make mistakes.

The lady that hit me did stop and she was histerical. Thank goodness I was actually calm! I had her take me home so that I could get Constance taken care of. She gave me her information and phone number as she wanted to know how I was after heading to the hospital. Luckily, I escaped with just a  bruised hip that was extremely sore, a bruised buttock and a sprained wrist. I didnt know when I would be able to run again - I was ready to go back out the next day, but that just wasnt going to happen.

After about 2 weeks or so, I gave exercising a try. My hip was still pretty sore, but I tried anyway. It went okay, but THE NEXT DAY...... Different story. My hip hurt!! Little by little I tried to get back to it. And finally after 2.5 months I was able to go for a little jog without too much pain. I was one happy girl!

I did struggle with fear of getting back on the road for a while and just going like I used to. Then one morning God sent me a scripture through the Christain radio station that I listen to. The scripture was "Though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil/harm/danger, for you are with me. Your rod and staff, they comfort me". I was in total aww, that God understood how I was feeling and that I wanted to get back to running. That gave me confidence through God to get back out there! And now I am completely back, but here and there I have some soreness in my hip.

Its nice to be back and tackling my goals again!

3-9-13 - 6am Saturday morning run

My friend Jessica and I planned for a mini group run for yesterday at 6 am. We had the option to go to the gym at a later time, but I believe in the beauty of a morning run outdoors. My husband had to leave around 7 to head into work for a 24 hour shift, so I had to get out early in order to be back in time for him to leave and take over our daughter Constance. I was awake by 4:54 am tired as CRAP! I wake for work anywhere between 5 and 5:30 am during the week and when the weekend is here NORMAL people like to sleep in - Not this girl. Every once in a while I will decide to sleep til 7 - Like once a month that may happen.

So I am up and check the weather. My body and mind are screaming "oh just call it off, its too cold out" and just thinking up all sorts of other excuses to not go. I even sent Jessica a text at 5 saying, "Let me know if its too cold out for you! We could go to the gym at 8 when it opens. Either way, Im up", lol. In other words please say later........ Ha, she said she would text me back in 30 min. When she did, she was a little skeptical about the sun not being up. I reassured her that it will start getting a little lighter outside starting at 6ish. She was in and would meet me at my place at 6am.

During the 30 min of waiting for her to reply back, I did some yoga stretches and warm ups then spend an awful long time trying to find my gloves. I kept finding 1 glove of each color that I had. I was tearing the place apart trying to find my other pink adidas glove that I normally wear out. I have a black pair (that I stole from my husband) and pink pair.

I finally dumped a basket of clean clothes out and found the match in there. PRAISE THE LORD! I was freaking out as I know it was 30 degrees out and my hands would surely hate me with nothing on at all! 6:00 rolls around fast and we are ready to go!

The run was so refreshing. I love that cold, crisp air - I could just breath it in all day. We covered 3.5 miles as we were running out of time for me to be back at home. Jessica finished out .5 more miles to make 4 and I went back in to make sure my husband was up. HE WAS NOT UP..... So of course I got him up and he had to scramble around and get ready quick. Jessica comes in and we stretch together for a bit. Then it was time to make breakfast for the little bird as she woke up right when I came back in the door. I asked if she wanted to go to the gym and of course she says, "YES" - my other motivator right there!

Work out #2 was at the Gym at 9am. ZUMBA time and it was awesome. Another good friend of mine and I decided to compete with each other and brought tremendous energy with us to the workout. I was barely breathing. At the end, I. was. beat.

Great workout, but it was time to go home, take a shower and make a good breakfast for myself, then head out for a round of put put with Constance.

Great Saturday! How was your weekend?

Much Love,
Krissy

Group Run Numero Dos (#2)

This morning we were blessed with a beautiful morning and good health to be able to get out of bed, get dressed and go running in the cold! Yes it is cold out there, but there is something about that crisp cold fresh air and the morning sun, that just leaves you refreshed. As I stepped out the front door, I stopped and inhaled in all that freshness. It was such a good feeling to be standing there thinking "I get to get up and go running with  friends". I am so excited for what our group runs have become! A lovely new friend joined us today, so there was a total of 3of us!

I forgot the group picture again - What is wrong with me? Anyhow, I am loving my new Nike Drifit Hoodie!

Recap of this run, I have become a bit slow, Anni did fabulous for her first 4 miles, and Lindsey just took the lead and is just as amazing as I thought she would be. They are both amazing women and have helped me turn my dream of creating a running group a reality. I know that there will be lots more that join us as we keep going forward and lots more fun to come!

Today I really realized that I have indeed lost quite a bit of my cardio. I gotta up my momentum and get back in the game! The little wimpy workouts are not my standard. Yes I love Zumba, but if I do that, I need to be doing a good weight workout or something before hand. If I am doing a DVD at home, I need to be hitting the road for a run afterwards. I need to look into some Hiit (high intensity interval training) workouts and start doing some of those too! I am looking forward to stairclimbing one day soon!

So today, I managed running 4 miles and 1 Hour of Zumba - Great workout day!

Much Love
